The Recovering Drama Queen's Commandments for
Loving, Dating, Breaking Up and
Living Powerfully and Authentically
(Even When Alone or Dating Mr. Wrong)
-
Attitude is everything. You can't always control what happens, but you can control how you deal with it. Remember, you are exactly where you need to be. Think positive. It is my belief that love, as happiness, is always a choice. So be good to YOURSELF, be happy, and open yourself up to the world and its wonders. Dating/meeting new people is fascinating. Enjoy the process!

-
Believe it or not, heartbreak can truly do wonders. It was when my ex-fiance left me heartbroken, that my heart cracked open so wide that all my love (which I never even knew was there) overflowed into the world.

-
After a breakup, take the time you need to grieve, to let go, and to feel what it is you need to feel. When you're ready to get back out there, remember that you'll still be vulnerable. It is my opinion that it's best to date a few people at once to make sure you don't get attached to the first person who comes along. Also, just because someone is the complete opposite of your ex doesn't necessarily mean he's the ONE.

-
No one is your last resort. My friend Angel says that her mom always told her: "Guys are like buses. If you miss one, in five minutes, another will come along." So don't be desperate. Humans can sense desperation 10,000 miles away, and it's the surest way to scare someone away, especially MEN.

-
There ARE good guys out there… don't settle for anyone who treats you badly, or any less than the great way you deserve to be treated!

-
On a (first) date, always have at your disposal… your own transportation, cash, and mints. Remember, safety comes first!
Also – telling your date all about your "McJerky" ex, dysfunctional family, numerous breakdowns or having more than one glass of wine while naming your unborn children and designing your curtains (white with blue flowers) for the house you'll share is not highly recommended!
